Yes, December is upon us, the elves are back and the advent calendars have one door open.
I feel like I’m quite organised with my gifts, they are all wrapped, but I need to get labels for them…. Talking about labels 😉 this weeks blog is a quick one all about getting the label from a choice!
I’ve created a button (which I’ll cover in another blog) which triggers a flow that sends an email to remind me to watch an episode.
It uses a choice column, which is set based on the number of victims in the episode!

Trigger Record
The email sent should send details of the episode, including the choice field.
If we just select the ‘Murder Rating’ from the Trigger record we don’t get the desired effect

What we get is the value of the choice, which is pretty useless

What we want is the label of the choice to be pulled through instead.
As we are pulling this from the Trigger, it’s pretty simple. Instead of using the Dynamic Content and selecting the column, we need to use the Expression and type in triggerOutputs()?[‘body/_lws_murderrating_label’] (so appending _ to the start and _label to the end of the choice column name)

Once you press OK it’ll appear like this in your Action.
![Screenshot of a Send an Email (V2) action. It shows the Expression triggerOutputs()?['body/_lws_murderrating_label']](http://www.powershewrote.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2024-12-01-073013.png)
This gets us the desired output :

Get A Row By ID/LIST ROWS
The approach is different if you are referencing the column from a ‘Get a Row By ID’ or a ‘List Rows’ action. In that scenario, you can’t use the _label approach.
In that case, you need to append the column with @OData.Community.Display.V1.FormattedValue instead. Below shows the Expression you’d need to use in both examples.

The Expression used in the Compose is outputs('Get_a_row_by_ID')?['body/lws)murderrating@OData.Community.Display.V1.FormattedValue']](http://www.powershewrote.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2024-12-01-080805-1024x301.png)
